Separate thinking and execution

separate-thinking-execution

The 2 main things we do for work everyday are:

  • Thinking
  • Executing

Sometimes we think about our work or strategy as we’re working. Other times, we work until we need to stop and resolve issues we didn’t think about.

Either way, the result is lack of productivity. We’re not working as hard as we could be and not thinking ahead like we should be. We create our own interruptions and are easy subjects to procrastination.

Separate thinking and execution to think better and execute faster (Sol Tanguay). Ideally, we should be able to think everything ahead then just execute our plan without interruption… Ideally.

It’s important to recognize your mood too. Sometimes, you not at your best creativity, maybe executing easy tasks is a good time. When you feel fresh and rested, reserve some time to plan your day. It always amazed me how relaxed I felt after I planned my day in the morning. This habit is now annoying people around me but I fell much more in control and my brain is free. Here’s an interesting article on Making the best of an unproductive day. I quite agree.

Definitely! Moods play a big part in your ability to think And execute but they’re also a dangerous path to procrastination.

It’s too easy to be in a mood where you don’t want to think and work; you have to set them aside sometimes. :)
